Three countries co-hosted the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Canada, Mexico and the United States. It is the first men’s World Cup staged across three host nations.
FIFA awarded the tournament to the joint North American bid in 2018, defeating Morocco in the voting process. Canada is hosting World Cup matches for the first time, while Mexico becomes the first country to host the men’s tournament three times, after 1970 and 1986. The United States previously hosted in 1994.
The expanded tournament features 48 teams, up from 32 in 2022. Matches are distributed among 16 cities across the three countries, with the opening match scheduled for Mexico City and the final scheduled for MetLife Stadium in the New York metropolitan area. Although the hosts share the event, each country’s football infrastructure and local match schedule are organized separately.
