Björn Borg won five consecutive men’s singles titles at Wimbledon, from 1976 through 1980.
His run began with a remarkable 1976 victory, when he defeated Ilie Năstase without losing a set. Borg then defended the title four times, beating opponents including Jimmy Connors, Roscoe Tanner and John McEnroe. The 1980 final against McEnroe became one of Wimbledon’s most famous matches, featuring a 34-point fourth-set tiebreak before Borg won the deciding set.
The five titles were consecutive, not Borg’s total Wimbledon tally compared with every other player. Roger Federer later matched the record by winning five straight championships from 2003 through 2007. Borg also reached the 1981 final, extending his Wimbledon match-winning streak to 41 before McEnroe ended it.
