Porsche achieved seven consecutive overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1981 through 1987.
The run began with the winning Porsche 936 in 1981, driven by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell. Porsche then introduced the 956, a purpose-built Group C prototype, which won from 1982 through 1985. The closely related 962C carried the marque’s winning streak through 1986 and 1987.
This was a manufacturer streak, not a claim that one identical car or one driver won every race. Porsche’s success involved factory entries, evolving prototypes, and highly competitive customer teams. Ickx and Bell were especially important during the early part of the sequence, while drivers such as Al Holbert, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and Derek Bell featured in later victories.
The seven-race run remains one of Le Mans’ defining manufacturer achievements. It is also easy to confuse it with Porsche’s longer overall history at the event, which includes many additional victories outside that 1981–1987 sequence.
