How many commercial singles were released from Metallica's 1991 album Metallica?

The story behind the answer

Five commercial singles were released from Metallica's 1991 album Metallica.

The singles were “Enter Sandman,” “The Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Sad but True.” Together, they helped turn the album into a worldwide mainstream success while introducing different sides of the band's sound.

“Enter Sandman” was the lead single, followed by “The Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Sad but True.” The band also sent “Don't Tread on Me” to rock radio, but it did not receive a commercial single release, which is why it is not counted among the five.

Almost all of the official singles had music videos. The promotional film for “Enter Sandman,” directed by Wayne Isham, later won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video at the 1992 ceremony.
