The Microsoft logo contains four colored squares.
The four-square symbol was introduced in 2012 alongside a new corporate identity. The squares form a larger window shape, linking the mark to Microsoft’s long-standing Windows branding while giving the company a simple symbol that could work beside its name.
The four panes are colored red, green, blue, and yellow. Microsoft’s wordmark uses the Segoe typeface, and the symbol is placed to its left in the standard horizontal lockup. The design replaced the italicized “Pac-Man” style logo that Microsoft had used since 1987.
A common mix-up is counting the four panes as separate logos or assuming that the symbol represents four products only. Microsoft has used the window motif in several forms, but the current corporate mark is specifically a four-square window followed by the wordmark.
