How many children does Roger Federer have?

The story behind the answer

Roger Federer has four children. He and his wife, former professional tennis player Mirka Federer, have two sets of twins: daughters Myla Rose and Charlene Riva, and sons Leo and Lenny.

The girls were born in July 2009, a few months after Federer and Mirka married. Their sons were born in May 2014, giving the family an unusual two-sets-of-twins story. The children were frequently seen supporting Federer at major tournaments, especially Wimbledon, where they became familiar figures in the player box.

The answer is sometimes mistakenly given as two because Federer has two sets of children, but each set contains twins, making four children altogether. They are also occasionally described simply as “the twins,” even though there are both twin daughters and twin sons.

Federer has generally kept his family life more private than his tennis career. Mirka, who competed for Switzerland before retiring because of a foot injury, has remained a prominent presence beside him at tournaments and during his retirement years.
