How many children did Levi Strauss have?

Levi Strauss had no children.

Strauss was born Löb Strauß in Buttenheim, Bavaria, in 1829 and immigrated to the United States as a young man. He later established the San Francisco branch of his family’s dry-goods business, which became Levi Strauss & Co. and eventually the Levi’s clothing company.

He never married, so he had no biological or adopted children. After his death in 1902, the company passed to his nephews, including Jacob, Sigmund, Louis, and Abraham Stern. This family succession is one reason people sometimes confuse Strauss’s extended family with his immediate family.

The company remained closely connected to related family lines for decades. Sigmund Stern’s daughter Elise later married Walter A. Haas, whose descendants became important owners and leaders of Levi Strauss & Co. Those relatives belonged to the broader family business story, not to Levi Strauss’s own household.
