A quinceañera’s candle ceremony commonly presents 15 candles.
The candles correspond to the celebrant’s fifteen years of life. In one widespread format, the quinceañera gives or dedicates candles to important people, such as parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives, or close friends. The exact recipients and order are chosen by the family.
This ritual is not mandatory and is not identical everywhere. Some celebrations omit it, shorten it, or replace it with another symbolic presentation. A religious service may also contain separate rites that should not be confused with the reception’s candle ceremony.
The number 15 is the stable feature connecting the ritual to the birthday. Individual families may change the music, speeches, candle holders, or participants without changing the celebration’s central milestone.
