The New Testament consists of 27 books in the standard Christian canon.
These books include four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, 21 letters, and the Book of Revelation. Together they form the second major section of the Christian Bible and focus on Jesus, the early Christian movement, and teaching addressed to early Christian communities and individuals.
The number 27 applies to the widely used Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox New Testament canon, even though these traditions differ in the arrangement and recognition of some Old Testament or deuterocanonical books. The New Testament writings were composed in the first century, while the recognition of the collection developed over time. It is therefore different from the 39-book Protestant Old Testament count and the 66-book total of the Protestant Bible.
