Forbes listed 2,668 billionaires in its 2022 World’s Billionaires ranking.
The list was published in April 2022 and estimated the group’s combined wealth at approximately $12.7 trillion. Forbes used stock prices and exchange rates from March 11, 2022, so the total reflected market conditions at that specific point rather than a permanent valuation.
Forbes’ billionaire methodology includes people whose calculated net worth reaches at least $1 billion. The estimate can include publicly traded shares, private businesses, property, cash, and other assets, minus known liabilities where information is available. Private-company values are necessarily estimates.
This ranking is often confused with the Forbes 400, which is an American list and uses a much higher entry threshold. The global list includes billionaires from many countries and industries. Its count changed to 2,640 in 2023 and rose to 2,781 in 2024.
