How many battles were included in Pokémon Stadium’s Stadium tournament?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Stadium’s Stadium tournament included 80 battles.

Pokémon Stadium was a Nintendo 64 strategy game released in Japan in 1999 and in Western regions in 2000. Its Stadium mode was divided into four Cups, each containing a series of three-on-three Pokémon battles. Taken together, the tournament required players to complete 80 battles.

The game focused on battles rather than a traditional story-driven adventure. Players selected teams of six Pokémon but chose only three for each individual match. They could use rental Pokémon or transfer creatures from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow with the Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak.

The 80-battle figure is sometimes confused with the game’s 151 available Pokémon or its eight Gym Leaders. Those numbers describe different parts of the game: the Pokémon roster reflected the first generation, while Gym Leader Castle offered a separate challenge. The Stadium tournament’s four Cups formed its central competition mode.
