Fifty-three artists contributed covers to The Metallica Blacklist, the 2021 tribute linked to The Black Album’s 30th anniversary.
The project features new interpretations of every track from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album. Because the original album has twelve songs, several songs receive multiple covers, allowing the tribute to reach 53 participating artists rather than simply reproducing the original track count.
The digital edition was released on September 10, 2021, while physical formats followed on October 1. The project brought together performers from rock, pop, country, hip-hop, punk, blues, and other styles, illustrating the album’s broad influence.
The Metallica Blacklist should not be confused with the original album’s twelve-track standard edition. It is a separate various-artists tribute collection created for the 30th anniversary, while the 35th anniversary in 2026 marks a later milestone for the original record.
