Stevie Wonder has won one Academy Award.
Wonder received the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1985 ceremony. His winning song was “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” written for the 1984 romantic comedy film The Woman in Red. The song also became a major international hit and one of his best-known recordings.
The Oscar is sometimes confused with Wonder’s Grammy success. He has won many Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for three different albums, but those honors come from the Recording Academy rather than the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
“I Just Called to Say I Love You” was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the same song category. Wonder’s Academy Award remains his principal competitive Oscar win, distinct from honorary or lifetime-achievement honors in other institutions.
