How to Train Your Dragon received two Academy Award nominations.
The 2010 film was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score at the 83rd Academy Awards. These nominations recognized both its animation and John Powell’s widely praised music.
The film did not win either category. Best Animated Feature went to Toy Story 3, while the Best Original Score award went to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network.
This fact is sometimes confused with the franchise’s later awards attention or with the number of Oscar nominations received by other DreamWorks animated films. The total of two applies specifically to the first How to Train Your Dragon film at the 83rd ceremony.
