Those Saturday afternoon matches were Everton against Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town against Sunderland, and Nottingham Forest against Leeds United. They formed the middle block of the opening Saturday schedule.
The other Saturday matches were arranged at different times. Hull City versus Manchester United started at 12:30, while Brentford versus Tottenham Hotspur was scheduled for 17:30.
The opening round also included one Friday match, three Sunday matches, and one Monday match. This spread created a ten-match opening round running from 21 to 24 August 2026.
