Greg Daniels, the developer of The Office, also co-created the animated hit King of the Hill.
Daniels developed the American version of The Office for television, but his earlier animation work included King of the Hill, which he co-created with Mike Judge. The series follows the Hill family and their neighbors in the fictional Texas town of Arlen, using understated comedy to explore suburban life, family, work, and changing American culture.
King of the Hill premiered on Fox on January 12, 1997. Its original run lasted 13 seasons, with most episodes airing through 2009 and four additional episodes released in syndication in 2010. The show centers on propane salesman Hank Hill, his wife Peggy, their son Bobby, and their eccentric neighbors Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer.
A useful distinction is that Daniels did not create The Office from scratch: the original British series was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Daniels adapted and developed the American version, which premiered in 2005. He later co-created Parks and Recreation with Michael Schur, further linking him to influential American television comedy.
