From which university did Edwin Hubble earn his bachelor's degree?
Answer
University of Chicago
Answer
University of Chicago
Edwin Hubble earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1910, studying mathematics and astronomy during his undergraduate years.
The University of Chicago gave Hubble an unusually broad academic foundation. He was an accomplished student and athlete there, playing basketball for the Chicago Maroons while preparing for a scientific career. His undergraduate education preceded a major change in direction: he later won a Rhodes Scholarship and went to Oxford, where he studied law and earned a master's degree.
Oxford is therefore a common mix-up in this question, but it was not the source of Hubble's bachelor's degree. After returning to the United States, he pursued astronomy professionally and eventually used observations from Mount Wilson Observatory to demonstrate that the universe contained galaxies beyond the Milky Way.
