From which country does BTS originate?

BTS originates from South Korea, where the group was formed and launched in the capital city of Seoul.

The group’s Korean name is Bangtan Sonyeondan, commonly translated as “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.” BTS began as a South Korean hip-hop-oriented idol group and debuted in 2013 with music that addressed school pressure, ambition and the expectations placed on young people. Those themes helped establish its identity before the group expanded into global pop.

All seven members are South Korean, and the group’s early training, recording and television promotions took place within South Korea’s K-pop industry. BTS later built a worldwide audience through Korean-language releases, international touring and songs in English, but international popularity does not change its country of origin.

Another frequent mix-up concerns the group’s name. In 2017, BTS introduced “Beyond the Scene” as an additional English meaning for the initials. That branding update did not indicate a new nationality or a change in the group’s South Korean roots.
