For which stroke is Australian swimmer Leisel Jones best known?

The story behind the answer

Australian swimmer Leisel Jones is best known for the breaststroke.

Jones specialized in the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke, competing at four consecutive Olympic Games from 2000 through 2012. Her long international career made her one of Australia’s most recognizable swimmers and one of the event’s outstanding specialists.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Jones won gold in the 100-metre breaststroke. She also collected Olympic silver medals in the 100-metre event at Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, plus silver in the 200-metre breaststroke at Athens. Across her Olympic appearances, she won nine medals.

Breaststroke is distinguished by its simultaneous arm movement and frog-like leg kick, making its rhythm very different from freestyle, backstroke, or butterfly. Jones also swam relays and individual medleys, but breaststroke was the discipline most closely associated with her career and signature success.
