Answer
Treaty of Paris
Answer
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War between the United States and Great Britain.
Signed on September 3, 1783, the treaty recognized the United States as an independent nation. It established the new country’s boundaries, including territory extending west to the Mississippi River, north to the Great Lakes, and south to Spanish Florida. The agreement also addressed debts, prisoners, property, and fishing rights.
The treaty followed the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781 and the suspension of major fighting, but negotiations took time. American representatives included Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens. This Treaty of Paris is distinct from later treaties with the same name, including the 1898 agreement that ended the Spanish-American War.
