Finish the lyric: 'We will, we will...'

The story behind the answer

The lyric “We will, we will…” is completed by “rock you” in Queen’s 1977 anthem “We Will Rock You.”

Written by guitarist Brian May, the song was created after Queen played a concert where the audience sang along so loudly that May wanted to write a piece they could perform with their own bodies. Its famous stomp-stomp-clap rhythm uses body percussion rather than a conventional drum groove, making it easy for large crowds to reproduce in stadiums.

The recording appears on News of the World and was released as a worldwide double A-side single with “We Are the Champions.” The two songs were often played consecutively, which helped establish them as a pair of sporting-event anthems.

A common mix-up is to answer with “We Are the Champions,” the companion song on the single. Another is to confuse the lyric with other crowd-pleasing phrases such as “shake you” or “roll you,” neither of which completes Queen’s title refrain.
