The lyric “Speaking words of wisdom” is followed by “Let It Be,” the title phrase of the Beatles’ song “Let It Be.”

Paul McCartney wrote the song and the Beatles released it as a single in 1970, shortly before the group’s final studio album, also titled Let It Be. Its gospel-influenced piano, choir-like backing vocals and calm refrain helped make it one of the band’s best-known songs.

McCartney said the song was inspired in part by a dream about his mother, Mary, who died when he was 14. In the dream, she reassured him with the words “let it be,” giving the song’s phrase a deeply personal origin.

A common mix-up is assuming the title refers to resignation or passivity alone. In context, the song combines acceptance with reassurance during a period of considerable tension for the Beatles, who were nearing their breakup.
