Taylor Swift's 'Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so...' is completed by 'alone.'
'Love Story' was written and recorded by Taylor Swift for her 2008 album Fearless. Swift drew on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet while changing the story's tragic ending into a more hopeful romantic narrative.
The song was inspired partly by Swift's experience of liking someone her family and friends did not approve of. She used Shakespearean names and imagery to express the feeling, even though the real-life situation did not become a romance. The track combines country-pop songwriting with a broad, radio-friendly chorus.
'Love Story' became one of Swift's breakthrough international hits. It reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became her first song to sell more than eight million downloads in the United States. The 2021 re-recording appeared on Fearless (Taylor's Version).
