Finish the lyric from "O Canada": "Our home and native..."

The story behind the answer

The lyric is “Our home and native land.” It is the opening line of the English version of “O Canada,” the national anthem of Canada.

“O Canada” began as a French Canadian patriotic song. Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier wrote the original French lyrics, and Calixa Lavallée composed the music for a Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day celebration in Quebec City on June 24, 1880.

The familiar English words came later, chiefly through Robert Stanley Weir’s 1908 version. They were not a direct translation of the French text, and Parliament later established the official English wording. In 2018, “in all thy sons command” was changed to “in all of us command,” but “our home and native land” remains the official opening. “True North” appears later, which makes “north” a plausible but incorrect distractor.
