Released in 1982, “Eye of the Tiger” was written by Survivor members Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik. Sylvester Stallone requested a song for the film Rocky III after using Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” in an early version of the movie.
The song became strongly associated with Rocky Balboa’s training and comeback. Its driving guitar riff, emphatic drums, and motivational lyrics made it a popular sports and workout anthem beyond the film.
