The ballpark’s naming-rights agreement was announced in 1999 as a 30-year, $100 million deal with Houston-based energy company Enron. The Astros played their first regular-season home game there in April 2000. The stadium was designed with a downtown location and hitter-friendly dimensions, leading fans to use nicknames such as “Ten-Run Field” and “The Juice Box.”

After Enron’s bankruptcy and scandal in 2001, the Astros bought back the remaining naming rights for $2.1 million. The venue became Astros Field in 2002 and was later renamed Minute Maid Park. A common mix-up is calling it the Astrodome, but the Astrodome was the Astros’ previous Houston home.
