Answer
Boyz II Men
“End of the Road” was a chart-topping 1992 hit for the R&B group Boyz II Men.
Written by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, and Daryl Simmons, the song was recorded for the soundtrack to the film Boomerang. Motown released it as a single on June 30, 1992, during Boyz II Men’s rapid rise after the success of their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony. Its dramatic harmonies, emotional lead vocals, and gradually intensifying arrangement became a model for 1990s R&B balladry.
In the United States, “End of the Road” spent 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, an extraordinary run at the time. It also topped the Billboard R&B chart and became Billboard’s No. 1 single of 1992. The song later won two Grammy Awards at the 1993 ceremony: Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song.
A frequent mix-up is assuming the song first appeared on the group’s original debut album. It was initially a Boomerang soundtrack track and was added to later reissues of Cooleyhighharmony after its success.
