During the 1929 Wall Street Crash, which Tuesday became the best-known day of mass selling?

The story behind the answer

During the 1929 Wall Street Crash, the Tuesday that became the best-known day of mass selling was Black Tuesday.

Black Tuesday was October 29, 1929, when roughly 16 million shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange. Prices plunged as investors tried to sell, and the market’s decline destroyed enormous amounts of paper wealth. The event followed Black Thursday on October 24 and Black Monday on October 28.

The crash did not by itself cause every feature of the Great Depression, but it intensified financial distress and undermined confidence. Bank failures, reduced lending, falling demand, and international economic problems followed. A common mistake is to treat Black Tuesday as the entire crash; historians generally describe the Wall Street Crash as a sequence of severe trading days from late October 1929.
