Dubai is a major city located in which Arab country?

The story behind the answer

Dubai is a major city in the United Arab Emirates, a country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the capital of the emirate also called Dubai, one of the federation’s seven constituent emirates.

Dubai lies along the Persian Gulf and grew from a small trading and pearling settlement into a global center for commerce, aviation, tourism, finance, and real estate. Its rapid modern expansion accelerated after oil was discovered in the emirate in the 1960s, although Dubai later diversified heavily into services, trade, transport, and tourism.

A frequent mix-up is identifying Dubai as a country. It is not: Dubai is a city and emirate within the United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi is the UAE’s capital and largest emirate, while Dubai is its most internationally recognized commercial and tourism hub. The UAE was formed in 1971.
