Dani Carvajal was a member of Spain’s national team in 2018. The right-back represented Spain at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he was one of the squad’s principal defensive options.
Born in Leganés, Spain, Daniel Carvajal Ramos developed in Real Madrid’s youth system before spending the 2012–13 season with Bayer Leverkusen. His performances in Germany earned him a return to Real Madrid, where he became the club’s long-term first-choice right-back and a key part of its Champions League-winning era.
Carvajal missed Spain’s opening World Cup match against Portugal while recovering from a hamstring injury, but he returned to the lineup for the group-stage match against Iran. Spain advanced from Group B but were eliminated by hosts Russia on penalties in the round of 16. The 2018 tournament can be confused with Carvajal’s later international highlights, including Spain’s 2024 European Championship victory, but his national team in 2018 was Spain.
