Beyoncé rose to fame as the lead singer of which girl group?
Answer
Destiny's Child
Answer
Destiny's Child
Beyoncé rose to fame as the lead singer of the American girl group Destiny’s Child.
The group began in Houston, Texas, in 1990 under the name Girl’s Tyme and later became Destiny’s Child. Beyoncé was the primary lead vocalist in the group’s early and final lineups, while Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams became her best-known partners in the trio’s most successful era.
Destiny’s Child broke through commercially in the late 1990s and became one of the best-selling girl groups in music history. Songs including “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious” combined R&B, pop, hip-hop, and themes of independence and female empowerment.
Beyoncé began her solo career while still associated with the group, releasing Dangerously in Love in 2003. Destiny’s Child later disbanded, but its harmonies, choreography, and vocal arrangements established the platform for Beyoncé’s career as a global solo star. TLC, SWV, and En Vogue were influential R&B groups, but none was Beyoncé’s launching group.
