At which university did Galileo teach for 18 years?

The story behind the answer

Galileo taught for 18 years at the University of Padua. He joined the university in 1592 and remained there until 1610, teaching mathematics, geometry, mechanics, and astronomy in the Republic of Venice.

Padua was one of the most important academic centers in Europe, and the position gave Galileo both intellectual freedom and practical opportunities. During these years he studied motion, mechanics, military technology, and astronomy. He also built relationships with students and patrons who helped circulate his work.

His Padua period ended just as telescopic astronomy transformed his career. In 1609 he improved the telescope after hearing about similar instruments from northern Europe. He then used it to study the Moon, the Milky Way, and Jupiter's satellites. In 1610, after publishing Starry Messenger, Galileo left Padua for a court position in Florence. The University of Pisa was where he had earlier taught, but it was not the institution associated with his 18-year tenure.
