Large crowds traditionally gather on the Champs-Élysées for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Paris.
The avenue runs from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe and is one of the French capital’s most famous public spaces. On December 31, people often gather along the avenue to celebrate, watch projections or illumination near the Arc de Triomphe, and welcome the new year.
The Champs-Élysées is also associated with national parades and major public gatherings throughout the year. Its broad layout and central location have made it a natural setting for large celebrations.
The avenue should not be confused with the Eiffel Tower, another Paris landmark frequently used in New Year imagery. The Eiffel Tower may be illuminated during holiday events, but the traditional mass gathering site is the Champs-Élysées.
