At which parallel did Soviet forces stop their advance into Korea in 1945?

The story behind the answer

Soviet forces stopped their advance into Korea at the 38th parallel in 1945.

During the Soviet offensive against Japan in August 1945, Soviet troops entered northern Korea. Under arrangements made with the United States, the 38th parallel became the dividing line between Soviet and American areas of occupation after Japan’s surrender.

Soviet forces controlled the area north of the line, while American forces accepted the surrender of Japanese troops south of it. The division was initially intended as an occupation arrangement, not necessarily as a permanent border.

The line later became the boundary between North Korea and South Korea. The Korean War began in 1950 when North Korean forces crossed it, and the 1953 armistice established a nearby demilitarized zone rather than restoring the exact line everywhere.
