At which New York City location did the first Times Square Ball drop take place in 1907?

The story behind the answer

The first Times Square Ball drop took place at One Times Square in New York City in 1907.

The event was arranged by Adolph Ochs, publisher of The New York Times, after the newspaper moved into a new headquarters in the building then known as the Times Tower. The illuminated ball provided a dramatic alternative to fireworks, which had been restricted in the area.

The first ball was about five feet in diameter, weighed roughly 700 pounds, and was made of iron and wood with electric lights. It was lowered from a flagpole at midnight on December 31, 1907, beginning a tradition that has continued with interruptions.

One Times Square remains the ceremonial location even though the building has undergone major changes. The name Times Square itself came from The New York Times's presence there, not from the later ball-drop tradition.
