At which fictional hospital does House M.D. primarily take place?

The story behind the answer

House M.D. primarily takes place at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

The hospital is located in Princeton, New Jersey, and serves as the main workplace for Gregory House and his colleagues. House leads a diagnostic team there, while other recurring characters work in departments such as oncology, surgery, and hospital administration.

Although the hospital is fictional, the production used real locations to represent it. Princeton University’s Frist Campus Center was used prominently for exterior and establishing shots. This helped give the series a recognizable institutional setting while allowing the medical plots to remain fictional.

Princeton-Plainsboro is sometimes shortened by viewers to “Princeton Hospital,” but that is not the full name used in the series. It is also easy to confuse the setting with hospitals from other medical dramas, including Seattle Grace from Grey’s Anatomy, Sacred Heart from Scrubs, and County General from ER.
