At the 2018 swearing-in for America250, the United States Semiquincentennial Commission had 33 members.
The members were sworn in on November 16, 2018, as the commission began its long-term planning for the national 250th-anniversary observances. The body brought together elected officials, federal representatives, and private citizens.
Its original composition included 16 private citizens, eight members of Congress, and nine federal officials. Those groups total 33 people, although later changes to the commission and its membership should not be confused with the original swearing-in.
The commission’s work covered more than a single Independence Day ceremony. It was tasked with developing recommendations, encouraging public participation, and coordinating commemorative activities leading up to 2026.
