At the 2018 NBA All Star Game, who won the Slam Dunk Contest?

The story behind the answer

At the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, Donovan Mitchell won the Slam Dunk Contest. The Utah Jazz rookie defeated Larry Nance Jr. in the final round at Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 17, 2018.

Mitchell’s performance paid tribute to earlier dunking legends, including Vince Carter and fellow Jazz star Darrell Griffith. He also involved his sister in one of his dunks, adding a personal moment to an otherwise highly theatrical contest. His victory made him the second Utah Jazz player to win the competition, following Jeremy Evans in 2012.

The contest is sometimes confused with the main NBA All-Star Game, which took place the following night and was won by Team LeBron. The Slam Dunk Contest is part of All-Star Saturday Night, alongside the Three-Point Contest and Skills Challenge. Mitchell entered as a rookie and became one of the event’s notable first-year champions.
