Casey earned the assignment as head coach of the Toronto Raptors, who had the best eligible record in the Eastern Conference when the coaching selection was determined. The league’s new All-Star format paired LeBron James and Stephen Curry as captains, with players drafted into Team LeBron and Team Stephen rather than separated strictly by conference.

Casey coached Team LeBron in the February 18, 2018, game in Los Angeles. Mike D’Antoni of the Houston Rockets coached Team Stephen. Team LeBron won 148–145, and LeBron James was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 29 points.
