At launch, how many playable classes did Diablo IV have?

The story behind the answer

At launch, Diablo IV had five playable classes: Barbarian, Sorcerer, Rogue, Necromancer, and Druid.

These classes represent distinct combat styles in Sanctuary. The Barbarian focuses on powerful melee attacks and weapon switching; the Sorcerer uses elemental magic; the Rogue combines ranged attacks, traps, and agile melee techniques; the Necromancer commands undead forces; and the Druid uses nature magic and shapeshifting.

The number refers specifically to Diablo IV’s initial release roster, not every class ever associated with the franchise. Blizzard later expanded the game with additional content, so questions about the complete current roster may have a different answer. This also differs from Diablo III’s original class lineup, which included the Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor, and Wizard. Diablo IV’s launch roster deliberately brought back familiar archetypes while retaining the series’ class-based action role-playing structure.
