Dubai’s New Year’s Eve celebration is famous for large-scale fireworks and light displays centered on the Burj Khalifa. The skyscraper, in Downtown Dubai, is the world’s tallest building and serves as the visual focus of the city’s midnight spectacle.
The tower opened officially in 2010 and rises 828 metres above ground. Its exterior lighting and projection systems can cover much of the building’s façade, while fireworks and fountains around the surrounding district add to the display.
The Burj Khalifa is sometimes confused with the Burj Al Arab, Dubai’s sail-shaped hotel. They are separate landmarks in different parts of the city. The New Year event is organized as a large public celebration around Downtown Dubai, although viewing areas and access arrangements can change from year to year.
