Utricularia, commonly called bladderwort, is the largest genus of carnivorous plants. Modern references often give a figure near 233 species, while taxonomic treatments differ as botanists split, merge, or reclassify species. Bladderworts belong to the family Lentibulariaceae, alongside butterworts (Pinguicula) and corkscrew plants (Genlisea). They occur on every continent except Antarctica and include terrestrial, aquatic, epiphytic, lithophytic, and rheophytic forms. About 80% are terrestrial and roughly 20% aquatic.
