Approximately 121.2 billion servings of instant noodles were consumed worldwide in 2022. The figure comes from the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), which tracks annual demand across national markets and regions.
The 2022 total was a record at the time, rising from about 118.2 billion servings in 2021. China and Hong Kong accounted for roughly 45.1 billion servings, while Indonesia consumed about 14.3 billion and Vietnam about 8.5 billion.
Instant noodles began in Japan when Momofuku Ando introduced Chicken Ramen in 1958. Nissin later launched Cup Noodles in 1971, helping turn a Japanese convenience food into a global staple. The worldwide total includes packet, cup, and bowl formats, not only products marketed under the word “ramen.”
