Apple was founded in 1976 in Los Altos, California.
Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne established Apple Computer Company on April 1, 1976. Jobs's family home in Los Altos became associated with the company's earliest work, although the famous Apple I computers were largely assembled in the home's garage and nearby spaces.
The founders initially focused on selling the Apple I, a single-board personal computer designed primarily by Wozniak. Apple was incorporated the following year, in 1977, and the Apple II helped turn the young business into a significant personal-computer company.
Cupertino is a frequent answer because Apple later built its headquarters there, including the well-known Apple Park campus. However, Cupertino is not the community where the company began. Los Altos is in Santa Clara County, in the heart of California's Silicon Valley, and the Jobs family home is recognized as an important site in Apple's origin story.
