Anthony Lopes is a goalkeeper of Portugal’s World Cup squad. Born in Givors, France, to Portuguese parents, Lopes chose to represent Portugal internationally rather than France. He developed at Lyon and became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after making his senior debut in 2012.

Lopes made his Portugal debut in 2015 and was selected for the country’s squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Portugal’s other goalkeeping options at that tournament included Rui Patrício and Beto, with Patrício serving as the regular starter. Lopes did not appear in a match during the tournament, but he was officially part of the Portuguese squad.
