An Antimonumenta was installed on International Women's Day 2019 on which Mexico City avenue?

The story behind the answer

An Antimonumenta was installed on Juárez Avenue in Mexico City on International Women’s Day 2019.

The structure was erected on 8 March 2019 in front of the Palace of Fine Arts during the city’s annual feminist march. Relatives of femicide victims, feminist collectives, and civil-society groups used the installation to demand justice and draw attention to gender-based violence in Mexico.

Its design uses a stylized Venus symbol with a raised fist at the center. Messages on the metal structure call for an end to femicide and for a national gender-violence alert. The name “Antimonumenta” reflects its role not as a traditional official memorial, but as a public protest installation that challenges silence and official inaction.

A common mix-up is to associate it with Paseo de la Reforma or Avenida Insurgentes, both prominent Mexico City locations connected with marches and monuments. The original Antimonumenta, however, stands on Juárez Avenue, beside one of the city’s best-known cultural landmarks.
