Amazon.com, Inc. was founded in 1994 by which entrepreneur?

The story behind the answer

Amazon.com, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos.

Bezos established the company in Bellevue, Washington, in July 1994, initially under the name Cadabra. It began as an online bookstore and opened for business in 1995, later expanding into general merchandise, cloud computing, logistics, streaming, and digital advertising.

Amazon’s original bookstore identity is an important part of its history, but the company was not founded as a department-store marketplace or as a cloud-computing provider. Amazon Web Services launched much later, in 2006. Bezos served as Amazon’s chief executive until 2021, when Andy Jassy became CEO; Bezos remained executive chair.
