Alex Anthopoulos was the general manager of the Atlanta Braves in 2018. The Braves hired him as executive vice president and general manager in November 2017, following a difficult period for the organization’s front office.
Anthopoulos had already built a reputation in baseball. He became the Toronto Blue Jays’ general manager in 2009 and helped construct the club that returned to the postseason in 2015 and 2016. Before joining Atlanta, he also worked in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ baseball operations department.
In his first full season with Atlanta, Anthopoulos oversaw a dramatic turnaround. The 2018 Braves finished 90–72, won the National League East, and reached the postseason for the first time since 2013. They were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. Anthopoulos later added the title of president of baseball operations, and Atlanta won the 2021 World Series under his leadership.
