Messi scored his first senior goal for Barcelona against Albacete. He found the net on 1 May 2005 in a La Liga match at Camp Nou during the 2004–05 season.
The goal came shortly after Messi had made his competitive first-team debut. Ronaldinho supplied the assist, and Messi finished with a delicate chip over the goalkeeper. An earlier attempt in the same match was ruled out for offside, making the eventual goal even more memorable.
At 17 years, 10 months and 7 days, Messi became Barcelona's youngest scorer in the league at that time. The record was later surpassed by Bojan Krkić, but the Albacete goal remained a landmark in the rise of one of football's greatest players.
The match is sometimes remembered incorrectly as a one-sided 2–0 Barcelona victory even though Messi's goal was initially disallowed before he scored again legally. Another common mix-up is confusing it with his first non-competitive Barcelona goal, which came against Palamós in a preseason friendly in 2004. Albacete was the opponent for his first official senior goal.
