Against which country did Pelé score his first international goal?

Pelé scored his first international goal against Argentina on July 7, 1957.

The goal came at Rio de Janeiro's Maracanã Stadium in the Copa Roca, a Brazil–Argentina competition later known as the Superclásico de las Américas. Brazil lost the match 2–1, but the 16-year-old Pelé scored Brazil's only goal. It was also his debut for the senior national team.

That goal made Pelé Brazil's youngest senior international goalscorer, a record he still holds. He was only 16 years and eight months old, yet he had already established himself as a major prospect with Santos. His early international breakthrough came just one year before the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

Argentina is sometimes overlooked because Pelé's most famous international goals came in World Cups, including the 1958 final against Sweden and the 1970 final against Italy. However, his first goal for Brazil came in a defeat, not a tournament final. He went on to score 77 officially recognized international goals in 92 appearances for Brazil.
